Dev Q&A 27th May
The Dev Q&A hosted on the official Minecraft Earth Wiki just wrapped up. As always there were a ton of great questions asked and more than a couple of interesting answers giving us some hints as to what might be coming next for Minecraft Earth!
Below is a list of some of the most interesting answers we saw during the Q&A session!
Q: Do you plan on adding chests? / Do you know anything about (or when) slime balls and/or pistons getting added to the game? / When is obsidian coming back?
A: Some blocks are a little tricky for us to bring into MCE. We've been working with all these blocks for a long time, making sure they work properly for AR and for MCE. They are almost there, just some more tweaks needed!
Q: Will you ever add villagers and villager trading?
A: We´re thinking about something like that quite soon. Those 1M piles of cobblestone have to go somewhere. We basically need more sinks in the game.
Q: Will enchanting table and enchanting join mce?
A: We're working towards adding all Vanilla features to Minecraft Earth. They will make their way to MCE in their own flavor
Q: will there be obsidian?
A: Eventually, but we took it out because we don´t have the nether yet and it had no purpose. In a early prototype I actually built a portal on my buildplate, set it on fire and moved my phone through, and wound up in the nether. No one had put it there, it was just there beecause we´re using minecraft source code. but it was broken in many ways, so when we do add the nether we need ot do it properly.
Q: Once the world has completely come out of covid-19 lockdown, what’s the plans for adventures? Will private adventures stay, and will public adventures make a return?
A: The crystal adventures will stay. About Public Adventures, its too soon to say, but most most likely yes.
Q: Will we ever be able to increase the size of 32x32 build plates in build mode? They can be too small to work with, especially in tight spaces. Pinch to zoom?
A: We are watching all channels for feedback. We have considered a few options, so maybe soon.
Q: will build plates ever function when they aren’t open? Eg, crops growing
A: We´re thinking about how to do this. It might be cool if you leave a mob of me on it that it somehow ticks. More mobs of me, more ticking. We want to do it, believe us.
Q: Do you know anything about (or when) slime balls and/or pistons getting added to the game?
A: We really love slimes and pistons as they allow for great redstone contraptions. We might be testing these right now ;)
Q: If enchanting tables were to be added to the game, would they be together with the crafting table and furnace in the crafting/smelting menu or would they be a block, needing 15 bookshelves for the best (30 level) enchantments?
A: If we add enchanting it would appear in the make stuff screen. You highlight an interesting design challenge though. How do we make the bookcases add to the power of the table? :)
Q: Will we ever have tables as blocks (crafting table, furnace etc)?
A: Yes we are considering how adding tables as blocks would work on buildplates. We have ideas :)
Q: Are we ever going to be able to add friends in the game? A friend list would be really cool.
A: We are looking at that, not in the short term, but in the mid term we are. Curious what you would like to see in that feature, what would being someone's friend allow you to do?
Q: will the jolly llama come back?
A: Maybe. Or maybe something BIGGER.
Q: WHATS THE UPDATE ON FISHING?
A: Oh jeez how many prototypes have we done for fishing at this point... Its a complicated one! We haven't found one that feels just right yet, but we are getting close!
Q: Have you planned to join more Tappable types? Including season and festival-specific?
A: More types, Yes!
Q: Do you think we will ever get a map that has a day/night cycle based on the players actual time
A: We've talked a lot about this, but haven't settled on the best way to incorporate day/night. Matching the real day/night might encourage people to play at night, which is dangerous. Having it be a 20 minute cycle and not match what you see outside would feel odd. We're still thinking.
Q: can "Mob of Me" be made to act like a hopper on a build plate, picking up items for you?
A: We have this CRAZY MASSIVE list of all the things we want Mobs of Me to be able to do! Some of them are more useful than others (I really want it to sing Opera but other team members said no). We just got some other things we want in the game first before we tackle Mob of Me updates!
Q: What should I do if I crafted normal quartz stairs in the seasonal challenge instead of smooth quartz stairs? Quartz is very hard to get
A: We know this is a potential issue and so we are increasing the amount of nether quartz in adventure chests from today!
Q: Will the nether somehow ever be a thing in MCE?
A: Yes we envision bringing in the nether, but it would be a big expansion. Perhaps your entire map changes, and your UI and your inventory is different in the nether and the real world. It would have to be pretty hard core.
Q: Will the map ever get more details? (desert/snow/swamps)
A: We are very excited about the idea of biomes on the map. It would be a big feature and so it needs a lot of design and thought. Keep watching.
Q: When are legendary adventures coming out??(I don't even have epic crystal tho)
A: Soon but not THAT soon.
Q: Can we will play with friends from a distance ?
A: We did think about remote play but we prioritized it down for something nice that's coming later this summer which we think you like better

New Recipes (09 May 2020)
9 new recipes were just added to Minecraft Earth today, including a number of Quartz Blocks, and perhaps most interestingly, comparators.
While there may not be many blocks in Minecraft Earth that you can actually use a comparator with yet (with the exception of cauldrons), it's great to see that some more redstone components may be starting to make their way to Minecraft Earth soon.

While 0.15.0 is only just out the door, and everyone is busy with adventure crystals, new adventures and getting all the sweet adventure chest loot (all of which have recently been added to Crafters Guide!), we're also always looking at what's coming next.
Jungle Adventures
Be on the look out for these new adventures in the comming updates. With a jungle tree and tower, whether these are a new adventure that will spawn on the map, a new tier of adventure crystal adventures or both we'll have to wait and see!

A whole range of new mob variants also appears to be in the works!
So far we've seen all of the following (shown above):
Amber Chicken
Bronzed Chicken
Gold Crested Chicken
Midnight Chicken
Skewbald Chicken
Stormy Chicken
Albino Cow
Ashen Cow
Brule Cow
Cookie Cow
Dairy Cow
Pink Moo Bloom
Pinto Cow
Suset Cow
Mottled Pig
Pale Pig
Piebald Pig
Pink Footed Pig
Sooty Pig
Spotted Pig
Rainbow Sheep
Exactly how these will be obtained, we're still unsure on. Feel free to jump on the Crafters Guide Discord Server and let us know which mob is your favourite though!
More
We've also heard rumours that a number of new blocks are likely to be coming quite soon, including stained glass and colored concrete, which should make great additions on top of the recently added terracotta and glazed terracotta.
While we're all waiting for the next patch, we've been busy adding many of the new adventures to our buildplate viewer, so be sure to give them a bit of a look if you need a hand hunting down some of those hidden adventure chests!

Update 0.15.0
Update 0.15.0 has just started rolling out this week, and on top of the level cap being raised to level 25 (With a brand new free buildplate we added to crafters guide last week) we're finally starting to see Adventure Crystals dropping in the wild!
Found in chest tappables, adventure chests, and also as challenge rewards these crystals let you spawn your own personal adventure for you and your friends. Crafters Guide has been updated with all the latest statistics for both tappables and adventure chests, so feel free to take a look and check out where you can get your hands on some Adventure Crystals of your own!
For more information on what's new in this latest patch stay tuned for more updates later this week, or let us know on the Crafters Guide Discord Server about anything you find as you're exploring!

Adventure Crystals
Along with the recent release of 0.14.0 bringing us a ton of new goodies in the form of Adventure Chests and all the look they contain, we're excited to see another new adventure related update on the horizon as well! Adventure Crystals look to be coming soon, and their basically an adventure in a bottle... or rather a cube!
Find some Adventure Crystals to start your very own, private Adventure! Find them in Tappables or other Adventures on the map.
While we still don't have all the details on how these will work yet (or how much they will change before actually being available), supposedly you should be able to spawn and place adventures using the above crystals, then enter them and invite friends to join via a QR code, in a similar fashion as with your own buildplates.
We'll keep you updated with more information as we find it, but in the mean time feel free to join the Crafters Guide Discord Server and let us know what you think about this coming update!

Boosts, Minifigs & More
Last week saw the rollout of Minecraft 0.12.0, with the main additions being the final release of the Wooly Cow mob, persistent health and edible food. A couple of new buildplates (which you can check out in the Crafters Guide buildplate viewer) including a new night mode buildplate were welcome additions as well.
One feature which was also teased at, but was not quite ready for prime time was this one though:
Coming soon! We’ve implemented the underlying code for a new feature called Boosts. Stay tuned for the full release!
While we all wait for boosts to be officially unlocked, we thought we'd share a little more info on them, and what you might be able to expect when they do become available in game!
Boosts
While the exact effects and variety are no doubt subject to change, the above are a sample of what you're likely to be able to expect in terms of boosts. Each boost will have 3 levels (Iron, Gold and Diamond), and provide different effects in game. Boosts may be provided by a number of sources including potions, totems and minifigs.
Some of the effects you are likely to see include:
XP Potion: Gain X x the experience for a short time.
Tappable Radius: Increase the tappable radius by X
Totem of Undying: Get brought back to life upon death with X % health back
Strength Boost
Defense Boost
Mining Speed Boost
Healing Boost
Max Health Boost
Crafting Speed Boost
Item Retention Boost
Item XP Boost
Eating Boost
Minifigs
( Image kindly provided by poyoman who got in early and already recieved his Carry Along Potion Case! )
We've seen mention of Minifigs a number of times, and they are finally being shown off right now at Toy Fair in New York. in fact some eager players have already ordered and received the Minecraft Earth "Carry Along Potion Case". While these are not yet usable in game it looks like they should be functional soon!
On top of those listed on the back of the box featured above, it has been confirmed that there will be 20 different figures in the first batch, including the following:
Attacking Steve Increase attack damage dealt
Benchmarking Steve Increase crafting Speed
Brewing Witch Increase max health
Chicken with Spawn Egg Increase XP from collecting mobs
Defending Alex Increase player defense
Fishing Polar Bear Increase smelting speed
Looting Skeleton Keep hotbar on death
Mining Creeper Increase mining speed
Rabbit with Carrots Increase amount of healing gained from food
Sniffing Wolf Increase tappable radius
Undying Evoker Keep backpack on death
Seeking Dolphin Collect tappables from further away.
Enraged Golem ?
Slowed Creeper ?
Boosts may be used once every 24h, with up to 5 boosts being active at one time. Each boost will last a set amount of time, for example the "Seeking Dolphin" boost has been shown to increase your tap radius by 10m, with the effect lasting for 15 minutes. Current price for each figure has been said to be set at around $5 USD.
More
As well as the NFC enabled minifigs, there are a whole range of 3.5 inch Minecraft Earth "minis". Those who have been following along will no doubt recognise some of the new mobs we posted about last month, including the Glow Squid and Skeleton Wolf. Joining them are a few more as of yet unannounced mobs, including the Melon Golem and Tropical Slime (featured above).
The range of "minis" also includes:
Furnace Golem
Dyed Horned Sheep
Reverse Chicken Jockey
Dyed Cat
Spawning Creeper
Whether any of these will actually eventuate as in game mobs is yet to be seen.
If you're interested to know more about any of the other features (Such as the upcoming adventure chests) that are coming soon, be sure to check out th last news post from January.
In case you haven't seen the recent updates to Crafters Guide, we're always trying to keep things up to date with the latest buildplates, adventures, item data and all the other information to keep you informed about what's new in Minecraft Earth. If you're interested in chatting about boosts or anything else, feel free to Jump on the Crafters Guide discord server!

A look at what's rumored to be coming soon
The new year has only just started and we've already had one small update to Minecraft Earth earlier this month, however there is of course much more coming soon. Let's take a quick look at what to look out for in the coming months!
Adventure Chests
Exactly how these will work is still unknown, however we're currently assuming these will spawn in adventures after clearing them of hostile mobs, or after completing a puzzle. No doubt with plenty of great loot to find inside!
New MCE Exclusive hostile mobs
While the Bone Spider may not be all that new information to some players, there are rumors of more MCE exclusive mobs coming in the future as well.
While we currently don't know the names of them all, we can share their icons: one being what looks like a skeletal dog, and the other being a ghostly ethereal looking squid of some kind. Exactly when or even if these two mobs will make it in to the game we do not know. It will no doubt be great to have some more variety in adventures once some of them do start appearing however!
Potions
Potions have been confirmed as something that will be availible in some form in Minecraft Earth. The specifics on their functionality are still unkown, however it is likely that they will boost various aspects of the game, such as health regeneration in adventures, defense, attack damage etc.
MCE Merch and Minifigures
It was a couple of months ago that we started seeing some hints at merch, including this carry along potion case on mattels own site.
So far we know this much:
There will be a number of minifigs, rumored to include:
Brewer
Crafter
Explosive
Defensive
Fishing
Inventory Space
Keep Inventory
Lucky
Undying
With possible "rare" versions of a number of the above as well.
We're unsure exactly how these will work, but it seems as they will apply similar effects to potions in game when scanned (either via NFC, or possibly QR code as well).
More Crops
While there is already a small range of crops available for farming already, we're expecting some of those missing crops to be added in the near future, including pumpkins and quite possibly cocoa as well.
More Blocks
New blocks from the Minecraft universe are of course always getting added (We only just saw Clay, Terracotta and more get added within the past couple of weeks), however a few to be on the lookout for include Acacia, Dark oak and Red Sandstone.
Be sure to check back to Crafters Guide to get the latest news as soon as it's available. And if you find anything new that you'd like to share with us and the community then be sure to jump on the Crafters Guide discord server and let us know!
